Our Story
APM manages over 2,000 units of non-profit housing ranging in size from 14 units to 205 units. The building structures are typically apartment buildings, stacked townhouses and regular townhouse projects. Many of APM’s staff have been with the company for over 20 years and we continue to manage properties that we began with 30 years ago. We have been retained long-term by multiple properties.

Maureen Barrey
Maureen Barrey has an extensive background in healthcare, social services, and affordable housing. Maureen was a Development Consultant assisting Non-Profit and Cooperative Corporations in the late 1980’s and worked with non-profit organisations in obtaining funding to build affordable housing. She was asked to provide property management services to new developments in the early 1990’s after the Government stopped funding affordable housing. She spent the next 31 years building Affordable Property Management, along with a strong team of Property Managers and Accounting staff, most of whom have worked for APM for over 20 years.
Maureen Barrey is a well-respected and knowledgeable member of the Affordable Housing industry. Maureen has been an instructor for the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) and conducts training sessions on Board Governance, Leadership, Introduction to Property Management and Building Maintenance. She has often been asked to speak at housing conferences and was recently asked to speak at the Age Friendly Business Alliance conference.
Maureen Barrey is a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA) and APM is classified as an Age Friendly Business. All APM staff have been trained to provide older adults with assistance and dignity.
I am a tenant at Kin Village and have been since 2008. Over the years, I have enjoyed living in the neighbourhood because it is peaceful and well-maintained. As a result, I wanted to let you know that I appreciate the hard-working team at Kin Village.
My recent interaction is what urged me to write this letter. I can hardly keep quiet. On Thursday (Dec.1st), I had some questions about my rental agreement and spoke to Kate, whom I found particularly helpful. She quickly answered my questions and referred me to Chris for further clarification. I met with Chris the next day and was genuinely impressed by her knowledge of the tenancy protocols. She advised me on how to proceed, and I instantly felt relieved.
It seems like yesterday I walked in the office, young and afraid of a new position! It has been my great pleasure to spend the past 27 years working at an amazing company. It started out as “just a job” but with the support of Maureen and Cynthia and their extensive knowledge of the Non-Profit Social Housing industry, it has become a career for me. Always supportive and providing new opportunities over the years, it shows what a positive and engaged employer can empower an employee to accomplish.
After celebrating 30 years of success, continued education, and working with diverse communities, APM has become more than a career or a job, it’s a family! Most of our team has spent more than 10 years working with APM to ensure a goal of positive and successful homes in various communities. Working year after year with amazing Board Members has been a joy and allowed me to meet some very talented individuals. I am very proud to say I am part of such a great team which would not be possible without the encouragement from Maureen & Cynthia.

As a long-time tenant (30 years) at Kin Village Non Profit Housing, I have experienced a privately hired property manager and The APM Team. Having the APM Team manage our property has brought organization, reliability, knowledgeable staff, and compassion. If we had concerns while our Senior Property Manager was not available, we turned to a welcoming head office staff for urgent matters. Many of the APM staff have not only been very dedicated to our community as a business but have also given their own time to volunteer at social events. The APM staff work closely with York Region Housing and are up to date with various programs that may benefit our community. APM staff are experienced in handling all aspects of the tenants needs such as working closely with the March of Dimes tenants. APM team would definitely be an asset to any Non Profit community.
Over the past number of years (20+) that APM has been our Management Company looking after our organisation Jack Goodlad Seniors Residences, we have been very satisfied with the level of service we have received. The APM team has worked very well with the Board of Directors, which includes working with the President, the Treasurer, and Committees, attending meetings to review the financial position, and working within the parameters of the Goodlad policies and procedures.
APM has also been very useful in bringing forward opportunities such as energy and audit rebates and incentives for upgrades to our building. They have worked successfully with the City of Toronto to make sure that Goodlad is able to take advantage of the social housing programs for improvement to our building. The staff works very hard to make sure all our needs are met and tasks are carried out in a swift and efficient manner. Overall, we are very pleased with the work carried out by the APM team in the past and to this present time and see no reason why this level of satisfaction would change in the future.
